Introducing #beechworthprojectxhehe.

Recently I completed the first stage renovation of a country cottage located in Beechworth, a historical town in North-East Victoria. Having grown up in the country, I feel a strong connection with country homes and get very excited when I have the opportunity to renovate one! This is the second project I’ve completed for this client and it’s been an absolute pleasure helping to bring some life and charm back to this beautiful home.

The country cottage dates back to the 1860’s and has so many lovely original features. Unfortunately a lot of these had been lost in the update carried out by the previous owners and new, ultra modern interiors now jarred with its traditional surrounds.

The client brief was to create a welcoming, cosy space that bursts with colour and life. One request was to “get rid of all the white”. My favourite request! But in actuality, white did this house no favour, highlighting imperfections in old plasterwork and appearing drab in the darkened spaces.

In keeping with the natural surrounds of the area, a rich colour palette of green and blue hues was used. The bold colour choices made the individual spaces feel grand and homely. Picture rails were added in every room to create ease with displaying artwork as most internal walls were solid brick.

A sense of mood and charm was captured in each room with colour and texture playing a large part in the cohesiveness of the design. Luxurious linens, woolen throws and colourful, patterned throw cushions were supplemented by delicate light fittings, rugged timbers and natural sisal floor coverings.

This country home has found it’s soul.

Next up, bringing some country charm to that ultra modern kitchen.
